SUMMARY:Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age (Elementary Version)
DESCRIPTION:We live in a digital world where technological advancement and their integration in our lives grows deeper and faster each day. There is growing recognition that social media and excessive screen time contribute to serious mental health concerns among our youth. To mitigate the negative impact of screens\, we must tune into the latest research\, set boundaries\, and establish healthy screen use habits at school and home. \nTo support this journey\, the FOSB PIE Committee and school staff invite our community to a viewing and discussion of Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition. Free onsite childcare and pizza available for potty-independent children – RSVP for childcare here to guarantee we have sufficient staffing and food for your child(ren). \n

SUMMARY:Re-Envisioning Public Education in Seattle
DESCRIPTION:Let’s get together to imagine a better public school system in Seattle\, and create a vision to fight for.\nTo be honest\, this school year started out with a whirlwind of stress and uncertainty. There is so much to learn\, so much to unpack\, all while continuing to show up for day-to-day life of parenting\, work\, and other responsibilities. \nSo the Friends of Salmon Bay Advocacy Committee thought it would be helpful to take some time to learn\, share\, and process — together. We’ll start with a history of how we got here\, followed by an overview of the current landscape of organizations and initiatives fighting for awareness and change\, and then take some to imagine scenarios where students and schools are thriving. \nAgenda\n\n6:30pm — Welcome and Introductions\nPast: How We Got Here\, by Jasmine Pulido\, co-host of Seattle Hall Pass Podcast\nPresent: Landscape of Organizations and Initiatives\, by Jessica McHugh\n7:00pm — Future: Imagining What If?\n\nSmall Group Activities\nShare-Outs / Discussion\n\n\n8:15pm — Closing\n\nDetails\nDate/Time: Thursday\, November 7th\, 2024\, 6:30–8:30pm \nLocation: Salmon Bay K8 School\, 1810 NW 65th St\, Seattle\, WA 98117 — enter through the door with the intercom on 18th Ave NW. We will have signage posted to help you find your way to the auditorium. \nFood and Drink: We will have food and N/A drinks available. \nChildcare: We have free\, on-site childcare available. If you would like to reserve space\, answer the appropriate questions when you RSVP. \nWho can attend? Anyone interested in imagining a better public school system is invited to participate! \nIs this a hybrid event? This is an in-person event with no virtual option or recording. \nEntrance:
