Talking EdTech: SPS and Salmon Bay

May 21 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join Us! Talking EdTech: SPS and Salmon Bay
Salmon Bay recently hosted Emily Cherkin for Let’s Talk EdTech!, and many families left that evening wanting to keep the conversation going and figure out next steps together. Join the FOSB Advocacy committee for an informal evening to talk about how tech is used in our schools, what to ask educators and administrators, and what opting out looks like heading into 2026-2027. We’ll bring conversation starters and resources.
All are welcome, whether you just started thinking about this or you’re ready to make some changes.
What’s all this talk about tech in schools?
Recent news headlines are clear: schools across the country, including right here in Seattle, are navigating big questions about how educational technology is being used, what it’s replacing, and what families can do about it. Some districts are pulling back. Some parents are opting out. And a lot of us are just starting to ask questions.
This moment has been a long time coming. SPS just announced a district-wide student cell-phone policy going into effect Monday, and Superintendent Shuldiner and the school board are in deepening conversations about tech usage and its impacts on developing brains. What happens at schools like Salmon Bay will help shape what the district does next.
Our teachers carry a lot, and they must be part of this conversation early. We will be connecting with them before the school year ends, to understand where they’re at, share what families are thinking, and give them time to prepare for more opt-outs heading into 2026-2027. They are essential partners in getting this right.
